Higham Lane School

Year 6 Transition

Welcome to the Year 6 Transition section of our website!

We are delighted that your son or daughter will be joining us in September and we look forward to working with you on this exciting journey to support your child to reach his/her full potential here at Higham Lane School.

At Higham Lane School, we believe that the home-school partnership plays a key role in helping our young people to succeed. We aim for every child to be the best that they can be and this is underpinned by 3 core values of ‘work hard, be kind and take responsibility’. We look forward to working with you as parents and carers so we can develop these core values in every Higham Lane student.

We appreciate the move from primary to secondary school represents one of the biggest changes students will have experienced.  Consequently, in this section of our website, you will find a range of information and activities intended to support students’ transition into secondary school alongside providing valuable information on how things work at Higham Lane.

Our new Year 7 Parents’ Evening will take place on Wednesday 10th July 2024 at 6.30pm at Higham Lane School in Coombe Hall; this will afford you an opportunity to visit the school, meet some of our staff and ask any questions you may have in advance of September. This is in addition to a 10-minute appointment to meet your child’s new tutor on our tutor ‘interview’ day in early July (date to be confirmed) and the two transition days planned for Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th July when pupils will experience some lessons and start to familiarise themselves with the school site and our routines.

You will receive an information pack (usually via the primary/junior school) in June with our new student handbook and various forms (to return on the tutor interview day) as part of the induction/transition process.

Please keep visiting our website to access the latest materials as this section of the website will be added to over the coming months (mainly after KS2 SATs) as we get closer to the actual transition days in July; we also highly recommend subscribing to our social media feeds for the latest information.  You will find us on Instagram (@highamlaneschool) and Facebook (Higham Lane School).

Although we anticipate most questions will be answered once you receive your pack, we are aware that there may be further questions which you may wish to ask. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via the yr6transition@highamlaneschool.co.uk email address.

Until we meet next term, we would like to wish both you and your son/daughter a safe and happy summer.

Kind regards,

Mr Gannon
