School Uniform Update As the weather forecast for tomorrow, Friday 20th June is expected to be very similar to today, with highs of 28 or 29°C, we will continue to allow students to come into school wearing their Higham Lane School PE kit. They will not be required to wear normal school uniform e.g. blazer, tie, shirt, trousers/skirt etc. to make things more comfortable for them during this period of hot weather. Please continue to support the school by ensuring that only the school PE kit is worn; please do not send your child into school with cycling type shorts which are very tight, converse trainers or any other non-HLS PE kit. If students would prefer to wear school uniform, then they can wear their normal school trousers or school skirts with a shirt unbuttoned at the top button; blazers and ties will not be required. All headteachers in Warwickshire received an email today informing us that the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the Met Office have issued an Amber Heat-Health Alert. This alert is in effect from 12:00 pm today until 9:00 am on Monday 23rd June. As a result, we hope that you are in agreement that the school has made the correct decision to amend school attire today due to the weather conditions. According to the weather forecast, the weather is due to turn significantly cooler on Sunday and is expected highs of 19°C on Monday. As a result, students will be expected to wear full school uniform again on Monday 23rd June. Important Health Information The guidance from the Amber Heat-Health Alert states that there is expected to be an increased demand on all health and social care services due to the heat. Please ensure that your child has a water bottle with a sufficient capacity to keep them hydrated throughout the school day. Thank you for your omnipresent support in all matters concerning the school. We hope that the approach taken by the school during this hot weather has been welcomed and has helped to make the conditions more manageable for our students.
Due to the hot weather, students will be allowed to wear either their HLS PE kit or HLS uniform (no tie or blazer) on Thursday 19th June. Students must wear school shoes if wearing uniform and trainers if wearing PE kit not crocs/sliders. If students are wearing PE kit this must be the HLS PE kit including HLS PE t-shirt and HLS shorts/plain black sports shorts or leggings. No other items of clothing will be accepted including cycling shorts, non HLS leggings or football kits. Please ensure your child has a refillable water bottle to keep them hydrated.
