Higham Lane School celebrates fantastic GCSE results for Year 11 students

Higham Lane School is delighted to celebrate another set of fantastic GCSE results, with data strongly indicating that the school’s overall outcomes will once again be significantly above the national average and are likely to place Higham Lane School among the highest-performing schools in Warwickshire.

Headteacher, Michael Gannon said:

“We are absolutely delighted with the GCSE results achieved by our incredible Year 11 students; these results are a testament to the extraordinary hard work, determination and resilience shown by this exceptional year group.

“This cohort has faced circumstances that have made their secondary school journey particularly challenging. Earlier this year, the school was affected by a cyber-attack, creating additional disruption at an already crucial point in students’ education. They were also significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and, importantly, they did not sit their SATs at primary school. They have therefore had to navigate considerable disruption and uncertainty throughout their education. Despite this, they have shown tremendous resilience and have continued to work incredibly hard, and this is shown in their outstanding GCSE results.

“This year, unfortunately, no official national progress data will be published, which is a shame because the data indicates that, on average, our Year 11 students have made exceptional progress since joining us in Year 7. We are incredibly proud of what they have achieved.”

The school is particularly pleased with the number of students securing strong passes in the key subjects of English and Mathematics, with well over four fifths of all students achieving grades 9–4 in GCSE English and also in GCSE Maths. These qualifications will provide students with a strong foundation and open doors to a wide range of future opportunities, including A Levels, further education, apprenticeships and employment.

The school is also especially proud of the outcomes achieved by students with SEND and those eligible for free school meals. Their results demonstrate the impact of the dedicated support provided by students, families and staff and reflect the school’s commitment to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed.

Higham Lane School is delighted to recognise a number of students who achieved phenomenal GCSE results, demonstrating outstanding commitment and academic excellence.

The following students achieved particularly exceptional results:

Saleeha S 10 grade 9s and 2 grade 8s
Fatima A 8 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s and a grade 7
Matthew D 8 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s and 2 grade 7s

Lily J 6 grade 9s, 6 grade 8s and a grade 7
Sarah Y 4 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s and 4 grade 7s

Adam Williams, Deputy Headteacher added:

“We would like to congratulate every single one of our Year 11 students. GCSE results day is about much more than individual grades; it is about celebrating the journey each young person has taken and the progress they have made. We are especially proud of this cohort because of everything they have had to overcome. Their resilience, determination and commitment have been truly inspirational. They should be incredibly proud of themselves today. We would also like to thank our parents and carers, who play such a crucial role in supporting their children. The encouragement, support and reassurance provided at home have been invaluable, particularly during such a challenging period”

Zoe Bissett, Deputy Headteacher also stated:

“We would also like to express our sincere thanks to our incredible staff. Our teachers and support staff have worked tirelessly to help our students achieve these results, going above and beyond throughout the year. Staff gave up their own time to provide additional revision sessions before and after school and during school holidays, offering students that extra support when they needed it most. Their dedication and commitment have made a huge difference. Most importantly, however, we want to thank our students. They have worked exceptionally hard, shown incredible resilience and demonstrated that setbacks do not have to define their future. We are immensely proud of every one of them”

These fantastic GCSE results come just one week after Higham Lane School Sixth Form celebrated its best-ever A Level results, providing another reason for the school community to celebrate. Higham Lane School remains proud to be the only Ofsted-rated Outstanding school in the area, and the school looks forward to building on this success. The school is particularly excited to welcome so many of its Year 11 students back in September as they begin the next stage of their education in the Higham Lane School Sixth Form, embarking upon their A Level studies.

For those students who are moving on to college, starting an apprenticeship or entering employment, we wish them every possible success for the future. Wherever their next steps take them, they will always be part of the Higham Lane School family, and we look forward to hearing about their successes in the years ahead.

Congratulations, Year 11! You have done yourselves, your families and your school incredibly proud!
