Higham Lane School

Higham Lane School

Higham Lane North Academy Free School will offer students the entitlement to an enriching curriculum which will enable students to study a wide range of subjects in depth. Our rich, broad and balanced curriculum will be based on the National Curriculum with the opportunity for all students to take the EBacc suite of qualifications. However, the curriculum will offer the flexibility for personalisation with students able to take GCSEs early, study separate Sciences but also reduce the number of subjects studied (including being ‘disapplied’ from the EBacc requirement of studying a humanity and a language) in order to receive extra curriculum support or be entered for alternative qualifications such as Entry level certificates in English and Maths.  In Key Stage 4, students will have a wide range of option subjects to choose from which will be supported by a strong core of English, Maths, Science (including the opportunity to study the separate sciences) and Modern Ethics (leading to a GCSE in Religious Studies).  Vocational subjects will also be a feature of the new school’s curriculum as these are highly successful at the partner school, Higham Lane School, and produce outstanding results for our learners and support their continued study at Post 16.

We strongly value art, design & technology, music, drama and sport.   Students in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 will enjoy 4 hours of PE per fortnight and sport will feature prominently in our extra-curricular offer.

A wide range of extra-curricular activities will be offered to students to support their academic and personal development, to help to build our young people’s confidence and resilience through participation in the many opportunities offered. These will include breakfast and lunchtime clubs and after-school activities offering opportunities in sport, music (vocal and instrumental), drama, subject-related clubs and debating as well as a wide range of educational visits, including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. The school will actively take part in competitive sport locally, regionally and nationally.
