Higham Lane School Media Release - 24/01/2022

Phil Kelly, Headteacher of Higham Lane School, has announced his intention to retire in August after 16 years of service to the school in this role.

David Buckle, Chair of Governors, said, “During Phil Kelly’s tenure as Headteacher of Higham Lane, so much has been achieved by our school: an outstanding judgement from Ofsted, World Class Schools status, the school becoming an academy, the opening of a successful sixth form and being given provisional permission to open a new secondary school in our local area. More importantly, the school has continuously improved in so many ways and it remains high-performing, highly-regarded and over-subscribed”.

Phil Kelly said,” Being the Headteacher of such an amazing school, with fantastic students, brilliant staff, committed governors and supportive parents and carers has been an honour and a privilege. Great teamwork has been at the heart of what we have all achieved together. I feel the time is right for me to retire and for a change now in the headship of the school as some new challenges facing all schools are considered. I will therefore retire in August after 16 happy and fulfilling years as Headteacher and 35 years in teaching. In the meantime, we have plenty to be getting on with in offering the best-possible education to our students and supporting our staff to deliver this”.

David Buckle added: “We are now seeking to appoint a new Headteacher to take up post in September. Our plans to open Higham Lane North Academy remain unchanged and work on this important project is continuing with the Department for Education and Warwickshire County Council”.
