Science

Science experimentThe Science facilities at the school are modern and well equipped, with nine purpose-built laboratories, with interactive technology. Staff within the department are qualified in at least one of the three Sciences and students benefit from the specialist teaching which this allows.

Key Stage 3 students study biology, chemistry and physics.  In all years a variety of teaching techniques are used to develop student scientific skills. Over 86% of our Year 9 students achieved a Level 5 or above in their SATs in 2006.

In Key Stage 4, all students have six lessons of Science leading to a double award GCSE in Science. A fast track programme is available leading to a triple award. Our GCSE results over the last 4 years have averaged 68% A*-C.

The department offers a range of extra curricular activities, including Imagineering, the school garden and the aviary.  Booster and revision classes are also offered by the department.

Year 6 start a transition project on Induction Day and carry this on through the summer independently, with follow-up work in September when students start their Science course.
