A Warm Welcome from Phil Kelly, Headteacher.
Dear Parent/Carer,
I am delighted to welcome you to our website!
Higham Lane School is a forward-thinking, successful, highly-regarded school, built on strong values. We provide a fully-rounded educational experience for all the young people in our care, valuing each individual and ensuring everyone can achieve to his/her personal best. Our staff are highly-skilled and dedicated to this goal. The successful relationships we secure between student, parent and school are central to ensuring that our students are happy and highly successful during their time with us.
A Welcome to Existing and Future parents!
Choosing our child's secondary school is probably one of the most important decisions that we, as parents/carers, have to make. Many factors may influence our decisions: the views of other parents, the school's reputation in the local community, examination results, OFSTED reports, extracurricular activities and so on. Whatever factors you value the most, I hope that our website will be helpful in giving you an insight into our approach as a school and offering you important information.
As Headteacher, I feel enormous pride in telling you that our school offers:
- the highest quality in teaching and learning, within a diverse curriculum that allows every child to work at his/her own pace;
- careful tracking of your son/daughter's progress, recognising your child's ability on arrival and then setting challenging, but realistic targets, so that progress is at least good and often better;
- excellent communication between parents/carers and your child's Progress Leader, form tutor and teachers. We actively encourage feedback and promise to offer a prompt response;
- sensitive pastoral care that ensures your child feels happy and safe;
- excellent relationships between staff and students;
- behaviour for learning that ensures students receive rewards when they are deserved and face fair consequences when they choose to disrupt the learning of others or threaten the safety of our school.
Our 2009 OFSTED report noted that: "Students are proud to attend and speak of the school with pride". What a great compliment to the school from those in our care! Overall, the school was judged to be good with many outstanding features.
I look forward to welcoming you, in person, to the school and answering any questions you may have, about life at Higham Lane.
Phil Kelly
